There's always a sparkle in Andrej Borejko's programmes as the whole world ‘collides’ in them. In March 2024, not just one of the world's best trumpeters, but two: Sergei Nakariakov and Gábor Boldoczki, will give the Czech premiere of a double concerto by the ‘Renaissance man’ Fazil Say. The other modern-day composer of the evening is Gija Kancheli, from the heavily tested Georgia. That's why in one of his last pieces he mourns the world with a sigh in Sumerian: "I don't know." For Smetana, too, the quartet From My Life was a look back at a difficult life. When else should this most intimate work be heard, in Szell's magnificent instrumentation, then on the eve of the composer’s 200th birthday and in the Year of Czech Music in the Smetana Hall?
