For a long time, the renowned vocal ensemble Schola Gregoriana Pragensis has been collaborating with the cellist Jiří Bárta on a successful and constantly evolving project, the focal point of which is a multi-layered dialogue: a dialogue across centuries and dialogue between different sound colours as conveyed by male voices and string instruments. Indeed, the principle of monody is not an exclusive domain of the Gregorian chant. In other epochs too, composers took advantage – in accordance with the means of expression of the time – of power and simplicity of a monophonic melody, for example in the interpretation of solo instruments. Let's listen to the magical pairing of choral and early polyphonic melodies with the music of Pärt, Gubajdulina, Kodály, Bach and various improvisations.
