Folklore is one of the greatest treasures of every nation. Folk tradition is like a breeding ground, from which a characteristic image, word, odor, and music of the country grow. A true foundation that inspires poets and composers. Leoš Janáček and Bohuslav Martinů brought the inspiration from Moravian folklore to perfection. Echoes of the melodic dialect and reflections of realities of local life, people and landscape can be heard by the attentive listener in every composition. All three of tonight’s protagonists, although now living in different parts of the world, come from Moravia. Their roots originate from the same country as the roots of both composers. The charm of Moravian and Hukvaldy folk poetry lies in the clear simplicity of musical motifs, to which both composers have given a unique character, originality and something extra that is familiar to each of us.
