BUXTEHUDE – MYSTICAL EVENING

Petr Wagner († 2019), a viola da gamba virtuoso, conductor, musician through and through, an excellent colleague, pedagogue and inspirational man, belonged, and still belongs to our orchestral family. In the 2010/2011 season, he was our resident artist, and his artistic and human imprint was felt throughout the entire concert season. This year, we are honoured to include an evening with a programme prepared as a tribute to him. Buxtehude's unique cycle of seven cantatas, Membra Jesu Nostri, is not mourning music, but it is no doubt music intended for contemplation. Each of the cantatas is a meditation on one part of the body of the Crucified. Cantata Six "Ad cor" is dedicated to the heart. It is here that instruments closest to Petr Wagner's heart - five violas da gamba - will meet on in consortium the stage.
