Bedřich Smetana

Prague Symphony Orchestra
Tomáš Brauner | conductor
In the hall that bears his name, Bedřich Smetana looks down from the relief on the organ and waits for the festive occasion. An occasion worthy of the performance of his masterpiece, which he himself did not have the chance to hear. From above, however, he seems to hear every performance. It is as if the bronze relief smiled when the harps of Vyšehrad sounded, and blushed when it was performed on Czechoslovakia's Foundation Day. After all, today more than ever it is more important than ever to commemorate and celebrate the values for which the First Republic was founded. As an orchestra based in the Municipal House from where it was proclaimed in 1918, we can never neglect this holiday. Just as we cannot neglect the importance of the work of Bedřich Smetana.
