PERGOLESI – STABAT MATER

Naples is a fateful city. Those who have seen it, know it, and nothing needs to be explained. And those who hesitate about going there won’t hesitate any further after the April evening ‘at Simon and Jude’. Soprano Simona Šaturová and flutist Jana Semerádová could tell us all about it. Even Gabriel Díaz, although he is from Seville in Spain. The city, pregnant with music, is simply irresistible. The Baroque giant Johann Adolf Hasse hailed from Germany, yet he also succumbed to the charm of Italy, and especially Naples. And even more so, his Italian companions Leonardo Vinci and Giovanni Battista Pergolesi. The latter created for the Church of San Luigi di Palazzo in Naples an Easter marvel, the Stabat Mater, which has since remained with us as an eternal solace in dark times.
